When enabled, the Station Retention feature holds documents printed by the user on their workstations, so that the documents will be printed once the user authenticates and releases them at the release terminals (NDD Print Releaser).
Before you begin
You must add the printers to the NDD Print Releaser using the option Use printer to release documents held on the print server and/or at user workstations. Learn more.
To access the administration interface:
-
Open Terminal (⌘ + Space → type Terminal)
-
Type the command:

To configure the connection to the NDD Print Releaser

When you enable this feature, all network printers will be configured to use the secure printing feature.
The Enable Optional Hold option allows the user to choose between holding or printing the document.
Disable secure printing on a specific printer
All network printers will be enabled to use on-device holding, but you can disable this feature on specific printers. This way, users will not need to release documents at the release agents. To do this:

Select it from the list of printers
-
Click Properties
-
Select Disable secure printing
Contingency in secure printing
If the NDD Print Releaser server is unavailable, printing will be blocked. However, the fallback feature allows the user to complete the print job in two ways:
-
Using the Offline Releaser setting: This setting allows the user to print only on the device selected at the time of printing.
-
Using the Contingency Printer Cache setting: This setting allows the user to select one of the devices to which they most recently sent a print job.
Configure the offline Releaser
-
Open the NDD Print Agent
-
Go to the Settings side menu
-
Click Add
-
Select the configuration
releaseroffline -
Enter the configuration value as
true -
Click Save
Configure the Contingency Printer Cache
Before you begin configuring the NDD Print Agent, you must enable the setting: A document can be released to more than one printer, provided it belongs to the same compatibility group in the NDD Print Releaser. Learn more.
-
Open the NDD Print Agent
-
Go to the Settings side menu
-
Click Add
-
Select the configuration
contingencyprintercache -
Enter the number of printers, from
1 a 20, that will be displayed to the user -
Click Save
This setting will override the first contingency option (Offline Releaser) and will always display a pop-up prompting the user to select one of the devices.
