2. Printing and Restrictions
Printing Blocked (No Printing)
Printing may be blocked in three situations:
-
When there are insufficient print quota credits, and the behavior is set to “Blocking Quotas.”
-
When the printer communication port is configured incorrectly
-
When a blocking policy is configured
Printing with a Warning
The print job will proceed, but a warning alert will be sent. Alerts may occur in three situations:
-
Insufficient credits (informative quotas): When there are insufficient print quota credits and the behavior is configured as Informative quotas.
-
Quotas nearing the limit: When your quotas are approaching the limit configured for the user.
-
Restriction policy configured: When a restriction policy is configured for the user.
Printing with restrictions
Printing restrictions occur whenever a document falls under a restrictive policy. Printing restrictions are treated as an alert; therefore, even if restrictions apply, the document can still be printed.
Summary table of restrictions:
|
Status |
What happens |
When it happens |
|---|---|---|
|
Printing blocked |
The document is not printed |
|
|
Printing with a warning |
The document is printed, but a warning appears |
|
|
Printing with restrictions |
The document prints, but a restriction notice appears |

3. Authentication for printing
In this case, when you request a printout, a login screen will appear, which can be configured in two ways:
-
Username and password authentication
-
PIN authentication
Please contact the administrator to obtain your login credentials.
4. Document Hold
When document hold is enabled, a screen with the Hold option will appear when you request a print job. This hold allows the document to be printed later by securely releasing it at print terminals or printers.
5. Fallback
In cases where the NDD Print Agent does not have access to the NDD Print Releaser server, the NDD Print Agent for macOS may offer two fallback options:
-
Offline Releaser: You can print only on the device selected at the time of printing.
-
Fallback Printer Cache: You can select one of the devices that has recently sent a print job.
6. Print Purpose
This option allows you to specify, at the time of printing, whether the document is for business or personal use.
-
Business: In this case, you may be prompted to select the account/project/process to which this document should be assigned; you must select it before printing.
-
Personal: In this case, the printouts will be recorded for personal use.
Use the print report export feature and select the option Export print job details (title and date) to access the purpose information.
7. Print watermark
A print watermark is a stamp applied to a printed document. This watermark is printed in the corner of the document and can be of two types:
-
Text-based print watermark: In this case, additional data can be printed on each page, such as: user name, domain, print date and time, computer name, etc. This will depend on the configuration set by the system administrator.
-
Watermark with tracking code: In this case, a code will be inserted on each printed page. This code will allow the user’s data who performed the print, as well as information about the printed job, to be viewed by tracking the inserted code.
The watermark is a policy that has been applied; therefore, the watermark notification will be optional and may not appear.
8. Cost Reduction
This involves converting color prints to black-and-white and single-sided prints to double-sided. There are two ways to perform these conversions:
-
Manual conversion: In this case, the available conversion options for your document will be displayed. You can choose whether or not to apply them.
-
Automatic conversion: In this case, the available conversions will be displayed, and those applicable to your print document will be enabled. In this case, you cannot disable them; that is, when printing, the conversions to the cost-reduction settings will be performed automatically.
9. Change Document Title
Allows you to modify the document title at the time of printing. Once the change is made, the new title will appear in NDD Print Portal 360 reports.
10. Print Redirection
When a print job is sent, the NDD Print Agent will display a pop-up with the message “Connecting to printer [printer name]”. If the connection takes longer than 15 seconds, a new pop-up will appear, allowing you to select a different printer to send the job to.
You can enable or disable this feature, as well as configure the wait time for the pop-up, in the advanced settings. Learn more.
