Print Blocking Policy

Restricts the ability of certain users, groups, or printers to print. In our example, we will block prints from all users when they send a print job via the Notepad application.

This guide is intended to illustrate how to use the blocking policy; please make the necessary adjustments based on your environment.

Configure the Policy

  1. Access the NDD Print Portal 360 and log in as a Administrator user

  2. Navigate to Policies > + Create

  3. Name the policy according to your needs

  4. Check the box Enable use of this policy

  5. Under Policy Type, select Both

  6. Under Job Type, choose Printing

  7. Under Filters, select Filter Properties and fill in the fields:

    1. Field - Select Application

    2. Operator - Select Equal

    3. Value - Select Notepad

  8. Under Behavior, select Permission > Do Not Allow

Customize the message that will be displayed to the user by unchecking the Use default notification option.

  1. Under Members, apply to all or select specific groups

  2. Click Save

Synchronize the policy

This procedure ensures that NDD Print Host receives the new configurations from NDD Print Portal 360.

By default, NDD Print Host checks for new configurations every hour.

  1. Open NDD Print Host.

  2. Go to Tools > Synchronize.

  3. Click Synchronize to ensure that the policies are applied.

You can view the active policies on the NDD Print Host dashboard, in the Policy Settings section.


Restart the NDD Print Agent services

This procedure ensures that the NDD Print Agent receives the new configurations from the NDD Print Host.

The NDD Print Agent checks for new configurations every 30 minutes.

  1. Open Windows Services.

  2. Restart the following NDD Print Agent services:

    1. Guardian

    2. Http server

    3. Listener

    4. Sender


Using the blocking policy

After completing the policy configuration, it’s time to test it.

  1. Open Notepad and enter any text

  2. Send to print

The expected behavior is for a pop-up window from the NDD Print Agent to appear with the blocking information.
