Failure
The total number of pages associated with replaced or exchanged supplies differs from the total page count reported by the printer.
Cause
The counters represent related information, but are not necessarily equivalent.
The printer’s total page count includes the total number of pages recorded by the equipment throughout its lifetime. In contrast, the supply meters take into account the print volume recorded during the period in which each consumable was monitored.
This discrepancy may occur when:
-
prints were made before monitoring began;
-
the supply was already in use before the system began tracking it;
-
the printer’s usage history is not linked to the supplies recorded during the monitored period.
Solution
The difference between the printer’s total meter and the sum of the pages associated with the supplies does not, in and of itself, indicate an inconsistency in the system.
To analyze these cases:
-
Consider the printer’s usage history
-
Verify the period actually monitored
-
Evaluate the consumption patterns for each supply
-
Use high- and low-yield thresholds to identify behavior outside expected norms
-
Take this information into account when managing supplies with the customer
